Good news has poured in for a beacon of hope in Cape Town—the Hope Exchange, thanks to some much-needed City grants that’ll set the shelter up for a future brighter than its building.
Cape Town, South Africa (17 July 2023) — The bright yellow building on Roeland Street in Cape Town might seem like just another dose of colourful architecture to those who didn’t know any better, but for the City’s homeless, it serves as a literal bright beam of hope. The Hope Exchange for many means the start of dignity and the possibility of the world becoming a brighter place.
A warm shower, clean clothes and a meal are just some of what the Hope Exchange helps contribute to the often-forgotten community.
The non-profit has been lending a hand to the destitute for decades, and now a hand is being extended to them!
The Hope Exchange recently shared that it will be receiving two grants in aid from the City of Cape Town, which means boosts for current and new projects and will help the shelter keep its social support going.
The funds and support injection is a warmly welcomed celebration for the organisation that relies on community kindness to keep its services active. However, the grants in aid are only one step to more impact, and public support is still incredibly necessary.
This comes at a wonderful time for the non-profit who are working on a second-phase shelter.
Currently, the Hope Exchange is looking for a few donations for the new shelter; pre-loved and new items like winter goods, kitchen equipment, toiletries and grocery hampers.
If you haven’t decided on what to do for Nelson Mandela Day just yet, why not help make this beacon of hope’s light a little brighter?
