In the heart of Hammanskraal, 26-year-old Godiragetse Mogajane is rewriting the rules of opportunity, transforming townships with innovation, ambition, and a relentless drive to uplift his community—one business at a time.

Pretoria, South Africa (30 November 2022) – At just 26, Godiragetse Mogajane, or Godi as he’s known, is proving that one determined individual can make a world of difference.

Hailing from Hammanskraal in Pretoria, Godi’s entrepreneurial journey is not just inspiring – it’s life-changing for the communities he serves. With ventures like Delivery Ka Speed, he’s tackling unemployment, driving innovation, and bringing opportunity to the heart of South Africa’s townships.

Godi’s entrepreneurial spirit was evident early on. “I started selling sweets in primary school, and I was hiring other students to sell on my behalf too,” he shares. “As I grew older, I began to understand that this is what entrepreneurship is, and I loved it.”

His passion for business didn’t come out of nowhere. Hours spent watching Business Day TV and CNBC Africa, alongside a love of reading, helped shape his vision.

“When you come from a township, watching results presentations from companies like Shoprite seemed like a different world,” he says.

Though he dropped out of university to chase his business dreams, Godi eventually returned to study at the University of Witwatersrand, proving that education and entrepreneurship can go hand-in-hand.

In 2019, Godi made waves as the only South African on Anzisha’s Top 20 Very Young Entrepreneurs list. This recognition wasn’t just for his ambition but for the tangible impact his businesses were already making.

Goodie Tutors, founded eight years ago, provides maths and science tutoring for students from primary school to university level in Hammanskraal. Then there’s AskGoodie, a call centre platform offering support in maths and science, run by a team of equally passionate “edupreneurs.”

His latest venture, Delivery Ka Speed, is nothing short of revolutionary. Launched in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic, the app-based service brings food delivery to township communities in Gauteng, Limpopo, North West, and Mpumalanga.

It’s more than just a convenience—it’s a lifeline for young people in these areas.

“I wanted to do something that can help young people in townships get employment,” he explains. Delivery Ka Speed provides job opportunities while helping drivers become vehicle owners through partnerships with banks.

“In townships, there are no opportunities. There aren’t any jobs at an entry level—they’re all in the big cities,” Godi adds.

By empowering youth to earn income and eventually own assets like scooters or cars, he’s rewriting the narrative of what’s possible in these communities.

Delivery Ka Speed isn’t just about mimicking urban conveniences; it’s about meeting township-specific needs. Recognising that many customers couldn’t afford to download an app, Godi developed a WhatsApp chatbot for food orders. For drivers, who often couldn’t buy vehicles outright, he introduced bicycles and electric scooters to navigate township roads, setting the business apart from giants like Uber Eats and Mr D.

“Everything that is happening in the urban area can be implemented in townships, and I see those gaps as business opportunities,” Godi says.

Despite challenges like connectivity issues in rural areas, Godi remains undeterred. For him, entrepreneurship is more than a job—it’s a calling.

“It’s like a hobby for me, which is really fun even though it can sometimes be challenging—it’s all part of the business game.”

As he continues to expand Delivery Ka Speed and his other initiatives, Godi reminds us that when you pair passion with purpose, the possibilities are endless.
