Hilton was left in the dark over the weekend after a storm saw the power failing, but a security company decided to do some good… and feed the entire community.
Hilton, South Africa (24 February 2020) – As we are in full swing of load shedding, having the schedule helps manage life and gives you the chance to plan accordingly. But when the power goes out unexpectedly and with no repair insight, it can be very frustrating.
Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal was sent into darkness after a storm saw trees pulling down powerlines. It meant families had to go without warmth and cooked meals for a time because they had no idea when power would be restored.
One company in the Hilton area saw this and decided to help the resident in their area. Aliwal Security loaded up their vehicle with hundreds of warm Chicken Biryani meals and went to hand them out door to door. After they had finished, they still had 150 meals so encouraged residents to pop in and collect one.
“In view of the electricity outages and no precise time that electricity could be restored, ALIWAL Security Hilton opted to provide Hot Meals to patrons not in a position to provide themselves such during this Crisis.
We have been distributing meals most of this afternoon and are down to the last approximately 150 serving portions. Chicken Briyani.”
Derrick Dos Santos shared the story with us and said he was blown away by the rare find. Another supporter encouraged the company to offer the meals to their task force to which they replied that, that was the very first thing they did.

Take a look at some of the damage the storm caused below.
