Rocket and Rain were in the car when their parents were hijacked; hijackers kicked the couple out of their vehicle and later dumped the dogs – thankfully, both have now been found.

Johannesburg, South Africa (30 September 2022) – The Johannesburg animal lovers united to help a couple reunite with their missing dogs. The family had been travelling along the N3 between Villiers Wilge Toll gate and De Hoek when they were hijacked.

While the hijacking was a stressful event in itself, the family dogs Rain and Rocket were in the car. The hijackers reportedly dumped the dogs along the route. Immediately the call was put out on Facebook in the hopes of locating both the dogs before they could be further endangered.

The community rallied and started the search for Rocket and Rain. Their story was shared across social media and everyone was keeping a close watch on the developing story.

The first dog to be found was Rocket, the young male husky. He had found his way to a farm Groetvlei near Villiers. The family quickly went to collect him and he was thankfully, in good health. The hijacking took place on the 25th of September, Rocket was found on the 28th of October. The pressure to find Rain was mounting!

Now they focused all their efforts on finding Rain, the female husky. Thankfully, once again the family got that call that Rain had also been found. She was found a day after Rocket and just 2km down from where he was. If we guessed, she could have been following his trail.

The Helderberg Times shared the happy update along with a message of thanks from the family to all those who helped spread their message.

“The owners wish to thank everyone who either assisted in the search or shared the message. Your help was more valuable than you may think.”

We urge all South Africans to remain vigilant whether for safety reasons or to help others who need extra eyes and ears on the ground. We are always better when we act, together!
