Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officer Lebogang Mngomezulu went above her call of duty to help a mother give birth on the city streets.

Johannesburg, South Africa – The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) received a call that a woman had collapsed on the pavement of Eloff Street. The quickly deployed an officer to the scene to access the situation.

When officer Lebogang Mngomezulu arrived on the scene, it was determined that the 28-year-old woman was actually in labour. Officer Mngomezulu assisted the mother in giving birth on the pavement as there was no time to wait for help.

A healthy baby girl joined the world thanks to the unwavering commitment from officer Mngomezulu. Officer Mngomezulu then went to get help from the Johannesburg Central Fire Station who sent a paramedic to assist. Mother and child were then transported to the Hillbrow Clinic and are said to be doing well.

“Officer Mngomezulu delivered a healthy baby girl on the pavement and wrapped the baby in her Metro Police jacked. The officer then fetched a paramedic from Johannesburg Central Fire Station and took her to Eloff Street to cut the umbilical cord.

The mother and baby were taken by ambulance to Hillbrow Clinic and is said to be doing very well.” – Wayne Minnaar, Spokesperson, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department.

Huge congrats to the mother on the birth of her child, without Officer Lebogang Mngomezulu we are sure it would have been a much scarier situation. Thanks also go to officer Mngomezulu, who went above the call of duty to help a resident of Johannesburg. Wow! Once again, the JMPD give us a reason to smile and fill our hearts with hope.
