One Small Act of Kindness feeds the homeless every Thursday night, and as the weather has started to turn, they are hoping to collect warm items for winter.
Johannesburg, South Africa – ‘One Small Act of Kindness’ is a charity based in Johannesburg that works to make a small difference in the life of the homeless.
Kelly-Ann Van Der Meer started One Small Act of Kindness in June 2016 from an idea she had as she was getting in bed on a Sunday night. Now the charity serves more people than she could ever dream of helping. Not only do they focus on feeding the homeless, but they also assist struggling families with groceries and any other person who needs assistance.
Kelly-Ann and volunteers cook food every Thursday to feed the homeless. They have a few regulars who often assist them in dishing food and handing out to those in need. Johannesburg has started to receive the first of winter’s chills. Kelly-Ann took to the charity’s Facebook page to ask if people could please start donating items to keep people warm.
They hope that people will donate socks, warm clothing, jackets, blankets and closed shoes to help protect the homeless from is said to be a bitterly cold winter.
“We need YOUR help! Any donations of jackets, socks, beanies, gloves and blankets will be so appreciated. You will be the difference between making it through a cold night or being too cold to sleep. Please open your hearts to help us help them”
If you would like to inquire about drop-off points or to donate financially to the charity you can do so here. They have asked people to message them via Facebook for more information if they would like to get involved in other ways.
