How a small act went a long way! Clive Booysen was none the wiser to the chain reaction of kindness his small act of feeding geese with the little he had would inspire.
However, after seeing his story, locals made sure the Goose Samaritan and his son got a break in life too.
Cape Town, South Africa (23 May, 2023)—A few weeks back, Clive Booysen (AKA the Goose Samaritan) made a promise to his child, one that would change his life.
When his son came to visit him, they’d seen ‘ducks’ (Egyptian Geese) together, and his son was adamant that Clive feed them.
Sticking to his word, Clive made sure he bought bread and fed the geese three times a day on his brief breaks from selling stickers on the side of the road. This was no spare change for Clive, who relies on the kindness of strangers to make ends meet as part of the Secret Love Project, an organisation dedicated to helping the homeless transform their lives.
Little did Clive know an onlooker saw his Goose Samaritan moment, and was touched by it. “Another reason to love Cape Town,” @monrihoole wrote before sharing the video; hopeful others would be touched by Clive’s act too.
But people who watched the video (over 200 000 views) were more than touched, they were determined to return the kindness. After the Goose Samaritan was identified, people took a leaf from his book and shared what they could with him.
Clive was shocked to receive donations. After all, it had just been a promise to his son.
Still, he was overwhelmed with gratitude and explained that his son needs stationery, so that’s where the donations will make their first stop.
Kindness coming back around is something we see often in South Africa, in many different and unexpected ways. Earlier this month saw the brave off-duty security guard who had helped save over 80 lives, enveloped in kindness when he lost his home. Good Things Guy readers soared to the rescue, helping him out within 24 hours.
Helpful people inspire helpful people, and if Clive’s story shows us anything, it’s that no act is too small.
