Another chance to do a great dose of good is calling as Ladles of Love calls on South Africans to volunteer 67 minutes, help them craft toys and make sarmies for children in need and break a world record in the process!

South Africa (16 May 2024) — As Nelson Mandela Day dawns upon us once more, South Africans across the country are gearing up for good deeds big and small. While many are committed to kind acts beyond Mandela Day —we are advocates of positively impactful efforts that happen at anytime—it is still a special day where many a difference is made in the lives of those who most need it! In a best of both worlds story, Ladles of Love (who commit to nourishing acts consistently) are gearing up to rock another world record and are inviting South Africans to join them on their mission.

Ladles of Love are no stranger to smashing world records of good as part of their call to alleviate food security in South Africa. For the past few years, they’ve made Nelson Mandela Day a time synonymous with showing the world how much good can happen in a single day when enough people commit to a kind cause.

Last year alone, the feeding organisation set an Ubuntu World record with their Mandela Day efforts, while a few months later, they went on to crack their Sarmiethon Record with 75 000 sandwiches for World Sandwich Day.

This year, they are gearing up to do it again with hopes to break the world record for the ‘Highest Number of Volunteers Spending 67 Minutes to Grow Children in Need’.

The Goal

  • Organise as many volunteers as possible at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town or Joburg’s Constitution Hill
  • A single ticket cost will go to buying 40 meals for children in need
  • The 67 minutes spent with Ladles of Love will include a process of positive actions:

The Actions

  • Make sandwiches
  • Fill buckets of hope
  • Create educational books and posters
  • Craft toys
  • Pack nutrition boxes
  • Innovate food gardens

Through the ticket fundraising for meals and the positive actions, it’s possible that Ladles of Love might just make a massive difference for thousands of children with food, toys and hope, and grab another world record in the process!
