The Life Changers “Life Boat” care vouchers are such a hit, that the organisation needs to urgently stock up on men’s clothing to support the vulnerable.
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (01 August 2022) – Life Changer is a Christian Church with a care operation working to rehabilitate and reunite vulnerable or homeless people with their families and support structures. To do this, they need to be able to engage with the people personally; this inspired the launch of the Life Boat Voucher.
We first found out about these amazing vouchers in April 2021. The Life Boat Voucher is a new currency on the streets of Pietermaritzburg. When a vulnerable person has a voucher, they are directed to the Life Boat resource centre, where they can cash it in for meaningful help. It’s the first step to changing lives in a long-lasting way.
Help is offered in the form of a voucher for a meal, a service (hair cut, eye test, for example) or a clean change of clothing. These simple acts offer a level of renewed dignity and give the organisation a chance to connect with the person. That connection leads to greater change opportunities which hopefully lead to the end of homelessness for the individual.
“When a ship is sinking, a life boat is what gets those aboard to a place of safety. That is why we have called this the “Life Boat;” it’s not meant to be the end, but a bridge to help find meaningful help and dry land for those who need it.”
One of the challenges the organisation faces, is clothing options for the men that come in, specifically those who are between the sizes of 30 and 32. The organisation put out a plea for assistance in donations of men’s clothing.
“We need your help in clothing donation. You have been very generous to the people in need and we are thankful.
We need your help in the following sizes in the male section. Males sizes 30-32 is what we need the most.
If you have any clothes to donate get in touch with us or drop them off at 7 Levy, Street, Pietermaritzburg.” – Life Changer
The clothing is the first step toward changing a life.
