Aidan Mills has been selected as one of the South Africans invited to compete at the 2023 Commonwealth Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) Championship; he is raising funds to get to Canada.

South Africa (03 August 2023) – Aidan Mills has qualified for the 2023 Commonwealth Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) Championship held in Canada and is working hard to raise the funds needed to go represent South Africa.

The championship is taking place from the 13th to the 17th of September. Aidan is one of 20 hopefuls that have been selected to represent South Africa.

The RLSS was founded in 1891 and the sole purpose was to advocate for drowning prevention. Since then, it has become the leading organisation for lifesaving in the Commonwealth.

Aidan was delighted when he got the invitation to join Team South Africa at the championship. He quickly started brainstorming ways to raise the funds needed to join and sent out letters to potential donors. He also set up a crowdfund so that members of the public who are able, can help him reach his goal.

“This will be my first opportunity to represent my country and my first time ever going to Commonwealth.

I’ve worked hard and been lucky enough to be able to obtain a spot out of the 20 athletes (10 men and 10 women) to represent South Africa.

I’ve been swimming since I was 5 and have been lifesaving as a Junior Lifesaver for just over a year.

It has always been a dream of mine to compete at the Commonwealth RLSS Champions coming back into the sport for only a year, I was determined to put in the effort and dedication needed to make the team.

Passion and hard work do pay off but the cost of travelling to Canada is enormous. I, unfortunately, don’t have all the necessary funds available, so any donation/or sponsorship, no matter how big or small, would be really appreciated.

I am determined and hardworking, ready to make my family, my team, my supporters and my country proud.

This has been a dream of mine for a very long time and with a bit of help, I may be able to finally obtain it!”

Committed to making South Africa proud, Aidan hopes that his cause will be funded in time for his trip. While he is currently focused on his exams, every spare moment is being dedicated to his dream of competing. You can support Aiden via his BackaBuddy fund here.
