After a courageous battle with cancer, a vibrant and spirited boy named Lindo finally embarked on his “big school” adventure.
Daveyton, South Africa (27 January 2025) – One special little boy named Lindo from the township of Daveyton finally got to experience the thrill of starting “big school” like other kids after an incredibly challenging battle with cancer.
In 2020, Lindo was diagnosed with Extrarenal Atypical Rhabdoid Tumour, an aggressive neoplasm commonly arising from the kidney during infancy and childhood. The heartbreaking diagnosis resulted in Lindo being in and out of hospital, enduring years of treatment.
However, this resilient little warrior never gave up hope and emerged stronger than ever, ready to embrace life’s wonders.
Recently, Rainbows and Smiles, together with the incredible team at HOT Cares, made sure Lindo could experience the simple joys of running through the school gates, being in a classroom, and making friends to enjoy fun times on the playground.
“We’ve had the privilege of watching Lindo grow into a bright and cute little guy, and today we are bursting with pride,” shared Rainbows and Smiles.
Looking all neat and smart in his new uniform and school threads, this little man started his primary school journey this month sporting the most infectious smile.
“Lindo Lee, you look so handsome in your new school uniform, little man!
“Moments like this remind us of the incredible resilience and strength of children with cancer,” Rainbows and Smiles added.
Lindo’s mother, Mbalenhle Makhubo, expressed her heartfelt gratitude:
“We are grateful for everything you have done for our son. The love and support we have received from day one till today is incredibly amazing and heartwarming!”
We are so glad Lindo has been able to reclaim his life, and he embarks on this exciting new chapter filled with joy, learning, and endless possibilities!
