The Cape Winelands District Municipality educates the children about Covid innovatively through the game of ‘Snake and Ladders.’
Western Cape, South Africa (23 August 2021) – The Covid-19 pandemic has affected the world to a large extent. The virus hasn’t had mercy on anyone, not even the children. Thus, the situation has given rise to the need for proper awareness among the people regarding the virus and the ways to safeguard ourselves and others from it.
The demand has become much more essential for the children. Steps have been taken across the globe to educate children about safety protocols through various methods. For one, the Cape Winelands District Municipality has brought in a new and innovative way to ensure the awareness children should have regarding the virus.
They organised a board game that majorly resembles the game of Snake and Ladders. The game is designed in a way to install safety measures in the minds of the children.
For example, the game allows players to advance three steps further when wearing their masks properly and makes them retreat a few steps when they are not following a specific safety protocol like sharing their water bottles with other children.
With ten thousand game sets distributed to the Western Cape Education Department for Grade Two learners, Elna von Schlicht, the Mayor of the said area, has stated that this step was taken to ensure the safety of the children and teachers when the school reopens.
