With the Midmar Mile just around the corner, swimmers from all over are counting down the days until they can put their best fins forward. Love Howick is ready to make a red splash this year and is calling on Midmar enthusiasts to join their mission by swimming with heart!
Howick, South Africa (23 January 2024) — The 2024 Midmar Mile is just around the corner, and swimmers from all over the world are counting down the days until they can put their best fins forward.
Over the years, Midmar (the world’s largest open-water swimming event) has seen more and more people take part with heart. From those who have gone the extra Midmar Mile to raise a little morale for mental health supporting organisations to the swimmers whose commitment has stood the test of time, the opportunities to make a difference, one stroke at a time, have become almost as big as the main race itself.
This year, splashes of red will be on the move as support for KwaZulu-Natal’s Love Howick bubbles. Members of #TeamRed will form part of the non-profit company’s efforts to make more of their projects possible, and teams entered will be part of the non-company team event.
The goal posts for #TeamRed are for each swimmer to raise at least R2000 for Love Howick in a way that’s equal parts rewarding and inspiring.
Love Howick, who were established in 2016 to help turn around the town in the plight of poverty and decay, have shown their commitment to community time and time again across the board of impact. From epic clean-ups during Green Week to restoring purpose and opportunity in the Howick community by helping connect future employees and employers, Love Howick is working hard to show South Africa that a little town can lead by example.
“Team Red represents a groundbreaking venture for Love Howick, allowing athletes to leverage their sporting pursuits for significant social impact. The initiative kicks off with the Midmar Mile and aims to expand to other major sporting events in the Midlands upon success,” share the NPC.
All swimmers on #TeamRed and their funds will help Love Howick’s Projects come to life or further their impact, like The Dream Centre and the Street Store.
So far, founder Matt Hogarty has already shared his commitment to swimming for his community come 10 February. Any other swimmers can get involved by registering for the team here.
