cellphone

Smaragda Louw forgot her cellphone in the bathroom at O R Tambo airport and only realised while driving home, thankfully the woman that found it wanted to return it.

Johannesburg, South Africa – Smaragda Louw was having a rather “scatterbrained” day when she lost her cellphone in the bathroom at O R Tambo. She was horrified when she realised she didn’t have it. She didn’t think she would get as lucky as she did in being reunited with her phone but thankfully, a Good Samaritan found it and got it back to her.

“Scatterbrained, with lots of brain cells, no longer functioning, and trying to pay attention to a million things at the same time, I left my cell phone in the loo at O R Tambo yesterday evening.

Get into the car to drive home, and horror! No Bluetooth connection! My whole life is literally on this phone. Yes, it’s backed up, but I want this thing in my hand, because seriously, who can even attempt to live without a phone, even if it’s just for a few days?!”

She quickly used the ‘Find My Phone’ app to see where it was. It was still switched on but no longer at the airport. It was in Tembisa. Smaragda’s heart sank but she called her number to see if the person who had her phone would answer. Thankfully, someone did answer and she confirmed she was keeping the phone safe just in case the owner called.

“Find My Phone says it’s in Tembisa already, not even an hour after I had left it behind in the loo. So I call my own number, and the most beautiful and soothing voice answers – yes, she has my phone, and yes, we can meet so she can give it back to me.

She takes public transport, meets me at a shopping Centre in Tembisa, and it feels as if I have just met up with a friend from long ago”

The woman on the other end of the line was Maphuthi. Smaragda was so please to have met her and couldn’t wait to praise her for her good heart and kind deed.

“Maphuthi, thank you for the opportunity to meet you, for your kindness, your warmth and for being just exactly the kind of person OUR South Africa is made up of.”

Smaragda ended off her post with a very inspiring quote.

“While our roads might be markedly different, the fact that we are both walking a road intimately unites us. And if we each dare to step onto each other’s road for even a moment, we can profoundly enhance the journey for both of us.” – Craig D. Lounsbrough
