A South African community are coming together to support a family after a man was shot during a tragic robbery.
On the 23rd November, an armed gang opened fire on Lyle Houldsworth, a construction manager paying employees after a project.
Lyle was rushed to hospital after the gang opened fire where doctors are currently treating him for heavy wounds in his throat. The doctors believe he will survive but faces a long road to recovery, he may even sustain long-term damage to his vocal cords.
The construction manager is the main breadwinner for his family and owns his own business. He is also a pillar of strength to many in Alberton, Johannesburg a town that the family is based in.
Megan & Clayton Duckworth, friends to the Houldsworth family started a crowd-funding campaign on the 27 November 2018 to try ease the financial stress and get them through this tough time.
“He has his own business so we are hoping to assist them by raising funds to contribute to their children’s school fees for the next 5 – 6 months, or to wherever they feel the need for it. Lyle will not be able to work for at least 6 months and, having his own business, we are all aware of how much this will impact their lives.
For all of us who have been blessed to have the Houldsworth family in our lives, regardless of the amount of time, we all know how special each one of them are.”
The community have come together and have already raised 20% of the target in just a matter of hours of the crowdfunding campaign going live.
Family & friends, let’s join together to support Lyle, Bronwyn, Kaylee & Kayden on this difficult journey that lies ahead of them. Through our combined faith, love and support, we can give them the strength to get through this difficult time. We all know that this is going to place a huge financial strain on their family so any contribution, no matter how small, will help them.
