Alfred Thorpe was on his morning run when he met a panicked woman who’s dog was lost, he was old and she was worried got hurt. Alfred searched and found him!
Alfred Thorpe goes for a run every morning at around 5am, on this day instead of running early he stayed home and did some work. Later in the day he decided to go for a run and his timing was perfect!
“A couple of things happened that made me end up on the beach on the exact time I did. Halfway through my run a lady came down to the beach with a leash in her hand. She looked distressed! I stopped to find out what was wrong.”
The woman’s front gate had been left open and her dog had gotten out. Her dog Rocky is 14 years old and she was worried that he might get hurt due to his age.
“He was at the water’s edge, quite a long way out on the rocks. Low tide was extra low (new moon) but the tide was turning”
Quickly Alfred and the owner dashed off towards Rocky to get him on the leash and back home safely.
“When we got to Rocky he was exhausted. He couldn’t navigate his way back over the rocks. After about 5m he could not even get up anymore. I had to carry him back over the rocks. He had a cut under his one shoulder and it was hurting when I picked him up.”
Because Rocky was distressed and exhausted Alfred used his shirt to pick him up and calm him down.
“He was distressed (almost aggressive) initially but relaxed in my arms (like a bag of potatoes š). I got off the rocks with my bare feet with a big smile, happy owner and dog back on dry land. Happy to report that Rocky is recovering well at home and feeling much better today.”
Alfred saved the day and helped a poor old dog get back to safety. It seems almost fated that Alfred went for his run later than usual, because he did he was at the beach at exactly the right moment to help Rocky.
