Having witnessed the need in South Africa, Theasen Pillay put up his own money to buy rice for people but it wasn’t enough so he challenged his community to join.
South Africa (27 August 2020) – The restrictions imposed due to Covid-19 left many destitute and hungry. Theasen Pillay, the founder of TPA Humanity, was moved to alleviate the dire problem of hunger in the community. He partnered with Food for Life and has been actively funding their feeding program.
On the stark realisation, that the need was far greater than anticipated and his personal funds would only reach a limited number of people, he appealed to the general public to share rice. This was a simple, earnest plea, to help feed the increasing number of hungry. The response to the plea has been heartwarming and overwhelming. Within 1 month, people have contributed 10 tonnes of rice.
“We are in debt to those pensioners, who are just getting by, yet still gave. To those businessmen and women, family and friends that have responded to this plea. This is an encouraging example of how, when a community mobilises together, positively, the kind of impact we can create. Collecting 10 tonnes of rice that will eventually feed 250k hungry people, is a blessing.” – Theasen Pillay, founder of TPA Humanity.
“Amidst all the devastation that is raging the world over, these acts of generosity, go a long way to restore faith and hope in humanity. A shift in focus, a shared value and we can change our community, for the better.” – Lisa Sukdev, spokesperson for TPA Humanity.
“Food for Life has fine-tuned processes and is able to provide a nutritious, delicious cooked meal for just R5.00 per person. This partnership with Theasen Pillay and his team at TPA Humanity has been fruitful and immensely rewarding. It is these catalytic relationships that enable us to reach further, do better and change communities.” – Viresh Panday, Food for Life
