403 Good Deeds

Matt Callanan has started to work towards completing 403 good deeds. It all started by winning £20 on a scratch lotto ticket.

Matt was sent to film George Clooney for a documentary, on set he got to meet his hero Bill Murray, it was the luckiest day of his life. Later that day while Matt was at the local garage, feeling pretty lucky, he bought a lotto scratch card and won £20.

Inspired by the work he was doing with George Clooney, instead of using the money on himself he took a “Big Issue” seller to buy groceries. That was the first good deed.

Matt wanted to create a legacy for his son, and to help the people of Cardiff, Wales in the process.

“I wanted to leave him with some ideas on how make people a little bit happier. (and maybe help make the world a better place)”

Matt did his first good deed in August 2016. He approached Steffan, a Big Issue Seller from Romania, and bought him a basket filled with food and essentials.

“After I paid….with the biggest smile on his face, he gave me a hug, a kiss and said “My brother, my brother” and keep touching his heart, and pulled me in for a hug again.

That my friends is how we should treat all fellow humans. With dignity. With love. With compassion. With respect.”

So far Matt has completed over 40 good deeds, from lending his camera to a photographer in need, helping an elderly couple change a punctured tyre to more simple deeds like giving directions or walking a woman to her car late at night.

Matt has also done deeds around his own home, like changing his wife’s tyre covers and washing her car. We look forward to hearing about all the good deeds to come in the future.
