Mumtaaz Emeran also known as Taz, took to social media to ask for help in paying off her debt so she could graduate from medical school, and it was a success!

Johannesburg, South Africa (10 December 2020) – Two days ago, medical student Mumtaaz Emeran took to social media to ask for help. She had secured a sponsor for her final year at school, but unfortunately due to mismanagement, the sponsorship fell through at the last minute, and this meant she owed over R470,000 in fees which also meant she would not be allowed to graduate.

Mumtaaz, who goes by Taz on social media, went on to explain that she had written her final exam on the 8th of December and shortly after completing it, she was contacted by her faculty to be informed that due to her historic debt, she would not be allowed to graduate. Taz was told that she had to settle the account by the 9th of December.

At the very same time, Taz reached out to the foundation that had sponsored her studies to find out what was to happen next. Unfortunately, the foundation had a touch of corruption, and the money set aside for students was taken by individuals. It was a blow for Taz, but she wanted to do anything to get her degree, so she asked WITS if she could take on the debt herself.

Taz then took to social media to ask for help from anyone willing. She gave the people wanting to donate, the direct account at WITS where her outstanding balance would be paid of as donations came in.

Life has not been easy for Taz, becoming a young mom at the age of 16; she was set on a path that would make her push for the best life possible. Once she got on her feet, she moved from Cape Town to Johannesburg to study to be a doctor. She spent the next three year studying and working to make her life work. She even needed to take a step back from studies due to financial problems.

It was then that the foundation came in to offer her support from her fourth year onwards. All the issues started shortly after the foundation took over her expenses. The R470,000.00 is an accumulation of expenses from her third year until today.

The amount was shocking, but people pulled together to help Taz, and it worked! Within 24 hours, Taz’s story had reached the right people, and her account was settled with the help of generous donors and Standard Bank.

Take a look at the moment Taz shared the happy news that her whole account had been settled below. Her future is looking a whole lot brighter. Taz has already been placed at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, and now she can start her first day of work on the 1st of January 2021.
