By day Faeeza Marshman works in corporate but by night, this incredible South African feeds the poor, cares for elders and helps abused women and children… at her own expense!

Johannesburg, South Africa (04 December 2022) – Administration Manager by day, community improver by night… meet Faeeza Marshman, the winner of the 2022 Lesedi Spirit of Volunteering award.

Established in 2016, the Lesedi (Sesotho word meaning light) awards were created to recognise Momentum Metropolitan’s employees who have taken ownership of the responsibility we all have to work for the betterment of less fortunate communities.

“We wanted employees to know that we recognise the things that are important to them and support them as people who care for and are concerned about the well-being of their communities.”

The Lesedi Spirit of Volunteering award is handed to an individual or a team that has best exemplified all of the Momentum Metropolitan volunteering values and this year, Marshman received this honour for her incredible community work in Bosmost and Riverlea.

Aside from her full-time role as Administration Manager at Metropolitan, Marshman gives back to the community – she feeds the poor and cares for elders, abused women and children at her own expense. Demonstrating real heart, guts and unshakeable conscience, she is critically involved in local government to provide much-needed aid and support for the needy and is the go-to person to resolve any key challenges and government issues on behalf of the community.

Marshman is also the founder of the Marshman Foundation, a non-profit organisation. She is currently looking to open up a safe house, soup kitchen and rehabilitation centre for abused individuals.

The Marshman Foundation was started after the incredible South African saw that many people needed help desperately in the Bosmont, Horseshoe, Noordgesig, Riverlea, Newclare, Coronationville and Westbury – basically the entire Gauteng province. She identified much-needed help under gender base violence victims, substance abusers, traumatised persons from dysfunctional households, elderly in the community, youth and more.

Their mission is to extend daily support to the community, rescue victims, and rehabilitate substance abusers, but “that is just the start”. Marshman has a vision of seeing positive societal change and creating a safe and secure community.
