A 6-year-old has just become the youngest published author in South Africa after releasing her first book.

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa (14 December 2022) – The dreams of a child and the dedication of her loving parents have culminated into something incredible… a book called “Lilly in her Garden” written by South Africa’s youngest author.

2022 has been the year for young writers in South Africa and in June this year, the youngest author was crowned for her book called the Harvest Day, written by 8-year-old Mikayla Schmidt but just six months later and the “AfriCAN Honoree Author” Award winner is handing over her reign to someone two years her junior.

Atarah Teagan Govender is just six years old and says that her love for reading started at an even younger age. Books are something that she is very passionate about. The young author who attends Rivers Church in Durban North says that her Sunday School teacher inspired her to write a book as she was told she is an excellent storyteller.

The talented South African has big dreams and wants to be a paediatrician when she grows up. Atarah also wants to inspire other kids never to underestimate themselves. She wants every person, young and old, to read her book and remember always to choose happiness.

“Nothing is impossible; you need to have faith in God and believe in yourself,” Atarah explains.

Atarah’s mum, Trisha Andrea Govender and dad Vishnu Govender are incredibly proud of Atarah and all her accomplishments.

“Atarah is a straight A-student and always wanting to learn new things. She is talkative and spreads love and happiness everywhere. She is our big bundle of joy. We thank God for her every day.

The young author will be launching her book on the 17th of December 2022 at the Musgrave Market from 9 am to 2 pm.
