Tom Mahamba was passionate about wildlife conservation and even co-narrated a movie about elephant poaching. His friends plan to honour him by taking his kids to New York City.
“Last of the Big Tuskers” produced by James Currie, premieres in New York at the 2018 Wildlife Conservation Film Festival on October the 23rd. Tom co-narrated the award-winning conservation documentary. Sadly, he passed away in November last year before editing was completed. He was an avid conservationist and fought hard to save the elephants that roamed Tembe.
Ernest Robbertse and friends decided that the best way to honour the conservation hero was to get his eldest children to New York to see their father in the film.
Tom’s two eldest children Cebih and Fortune Mahambe will be flown to the city that never sleeps and be given the chance to see their father, find their peace and say a final goodbye to him on screen.
“This is in memory of their great father & his invaluable contribution to conservation.”
“Contributions will cover costs of passports, visas, air flights from South Africa, hotel accommodation, meals, transport, insurance & incidentals in New York.”
“Surplus contributions will go to the Tembe Tusker Foundation of which Tom was a founding trustee.”
They decided to crowdfund R100,000 and have just crossed over the R70k mark. By the looks of it, Tom’s children will get the chance to see their father on screen soon.
You can watch the trailer for the movie below. Be warned it contains images of poached elephants that some might find distressing.
