Kyle, Luke, and John made a splash for children in need, conquering not just the Midmar Mile but also raising enough funds to give a child a life-changing facial surgery affording them endless smiles and newfound confidence!
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (25 February 2025) – They bravely swam the mile and accomplished the mission they had ambitiously set their sights on! Kyle, Luke, and John successfully raised R25,000 for the Smile Foundation as part of their Midmar Mile swimming challenge.
This significant amount is enough to provide life-changing surgery for a child at the charity’s next Smile Week!
Not only is this amazing but we’re so proud of these young men who took on a great challenge to do and achieve something greater than themselves – greatly impacting the life of a child in need and likely suffering from facial abnormalities and severe burns.
Children born with cleft lip and palate often face harmful stereotypes and inclusion challenges. In some communities, these children are unfairly judged or excluded simply because of how they look.
Smile Foundation works to provide these children with life-changing surgeries, giving them the confidence to embrace who they are and the chance to feel included in their schools and communities.
And to truly capture the power of these procedures, a mother shares her gratitude for her child finally being able to smile for the very first time:
“I want to say a big thank you to Smile Foundation for giving my daughter an opportunity to smile at the world. Thank you very everything you have done for us and for letting my child be part of this Smile Week, because of Smile Foundation, I’m able to see my child’s beautiful smile.”
Every child deserves to feel accepted, and to smile bright and wide! Well done to our local trio of heroes for making waves for many little precious smiles!
