Mighty Mack is finally out of the ICU, and her Army cannot get enough of this good news; the little lady has won the hearts of South Africans everywhere.
Johannesburg, South Africa (16 August 2021) – Little Mackenzie Friedman, affectionately known as Mighty Mack, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on Wednesday, 12th of May 2021; since then, she has been fighting various medical conditions, from infection to having a mass removed from her lungs.
Mack spent a total of 9-weeks in the ICU, part of which was in a coma and on a ventilator. Thankfully, she has been making strides in her recovery. A few weeks ago we reported the amazing news that Mack’s cancer count was down to 0.1%.
Her story has touched the hearts of South Africans and mobilised many to donate blood and register as bone marrow donors in honour of her journey. Now that Mack is in the process of her Chemotherapy treatment, her need for a bone marrow match is greater than ever.
Over the weekend, Mack’s mom and dad visited one of the blood drives being hosted in her honour. They made their donations and hope that others will keep doing the same.
While Mack may not need blood donations forever, there are thousands like her that will, so the importance of being a regular donor is important.
This news of her being released from the ICU has us so happy for the family! We cannot wait to share the next update. Until then, we can all still keep on working to raise awareness to find the perfect bone marrow match for Mackenzie.
