Mighty Mack’s parents got to meet the transplant team that will be doing her bone marrow transplant later this month – they have started prepping the family.
Johannesburg, South Africa (05 November 2021) – Mighty Mack found her match in mid-October, and her family have been counting down the days for her life-changing bone marrow transplant. The transplant takes place this month, and the team have been prepping mom and dad, Megan and Bronson, for what to expect.
Little Mackenzie Friedman, affectionately known as Mighty Mack, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on Wednesday, 12th of May 2021, when she was only a few months old. Over the months since then, South Africans have been moved by the updates of her medical condition.
Her story has touched the hearts of South Africans and mobilised many to donate blood and register as bone marrow donors in honour of her journey.
Her medical team’s goal was to eliminate the cancer from her little body as well as all the infections she picked up along the way, all the while searching for a bone marrow match that would change her life. Thankfully, a match outside of the family was found, and now they are finalising her treatment for the transplant.
“We had a meeting with our incredible transplant team today and it looks like if all goes according to plan Mack could be home again in time for her first birthday in January! Smiles all round and big love to her donor…we don’t know you are but you are a real-life hero”
Mack is home with her family now, but once she has had her transplant, she will spend several weeks in the hospital. As the family shared, all going well, she will be back home just in time for her 1st birthday next year.
Mack’s little personality is starting to shine through all the photos her family share, and we can see that she has an absolute love of laughter. We cannot wait to share the updates to come. We hope and pray that all goes well for this heroic little cancer warrior.
