Mighty Mack’s journey in 2021 has been the most inspirational and hope-filled story of our year; she is getting the Christmas she deserves at home and showered with love.
Johannesburg, South Africa (23 December 2021) – Little Mackenzie Friedman, affectionately known as Mighty Mack, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) on Wednesday, 12th of May 2021, when she was only a few months old. Over the months since then, South Africans have been moved by the updates of her medical condition.
Her story has touched the hearts of thousands of South Africans and mobilised many to donate blood and register as bone marrow donors in honour of her journey.
Mighty Mack found her match in mid-October, and her family have been counting down the days for her life-changing bone marrow transplant. The transplant takes place in January next year, and the team have been prepping mom and dad, Megan and Bronson, for what to expect.
Mack is home with mom and dad for her first Christmas, and she even has a new friend to spend it with. The family have taken in a dog from The Sushi and Panda Foundation. The foundation saves South Africa’s township animals.
Mighty Mack’s new best friend was rescued from a terrible life in one of Johannesburg’s townships. Mack will spend Christmas in isolation with Piper, the other family dog Layla as well as mom and dad. This is all in preparation for her upcoming transplant.
We are so happy for Megan, Bronson and everyone in the family. This news is heartwarming indeed! If you would like to send your festive wishes along to Mack and her family, reach out via the Mighty Mack Facebook page here.
