Mackenzie “Mighty Mack” is back home with her parents after a successful round of chemo; her absolute joy during playtime has warmed our hearts today!
Johannesburg, South Africa (08 October 2021) – Mackenzie “Mighty Mack” has been back at home with mom and dad for a short while now and is loving every moment of it! When last we updated you, Mack had just returned to the hospital to complete her next round of chemo.
This round of chemo is meant to be the one that finally smashes the last of her cancer and makes sure she is in remission. Halfway through this latest round, tests came back to show Mack is in remission, meaning she is one step closer to a bone marrow transplant. The only major concern left is trying to fight a lingering fungal infection that has been persistent over the last two months.
With her health otherwise looking very positive, Mack was allowed to go home again. She only pops into the hospital now to have chemo, which will help keep her in remission until she can have a bone marrow transplant.
Since being home, Mack has quickly settled into being a toddler and has found a real love for the water. She loves playtime in the pool, and her family calls her a water baby, just like her mom Megan.
She has also had far more opportunities to play, and recently she was filmed laughing away during playtime. Mack’s family share that her laughter is the best medicine, and we can’t agree more! We are filled with joy hearing her laughter.
As blood stocks are low, the family have shared a blood drive that is taking place at Broadacres Academy this weekend, and they are encouraging people to join. If you cannot make it to the blood drive, you can find a donor centre near you here.
Blood is an essential part of fighting childhood cancer and undergoing chemo, so not only will your donation help Mack, but also many like her.
