Mike Yung has been recorded busking in the city before, but his rendition of “Unchained Melody” Thursday invited a fresh new wave of fans.
Every once in a while, a subway performer gets loaded onto the internet for all the world to see. A singer who goes by the name Mike Yung did way more than just that on Thursday when he belted “Unchained Melody” in a New York City station.
Yung’s rendition of The Righteous Brothers classic evidently hit several emotional notes with the witnesses at the 23rd Street subway platform. Yung tweeted on Thursday a video that a passenger recorded of his performance, and just 20 hours later, his tweet had garnered more than 2,400 likes and 1,300 retweets.
The performer appears to have created his own Twitter account Thursday, perhaps inspired by the massively positive reception he has received in the past 24 hours. He replied to most of the positive comments left on his video, and he also wrote he was working on an original record.
According to his Twitter bio, Mike is working on a record and usually performs at the 23rd Street station in New York City. We hope this performance helps him get some much-deserved attention.
Morning commutes need more artists like Yung. Watch the incredible video here…
