A mother and daughter duo are the Resident Angels of Bryanston! Busi and Lusanda Mate are on a mission to keep their community beautiful and have inspired others to join the journey.

Bryanston, South Africa (07 August, 2023) — A mother and daughter duo have earned the title of Bryanston’s Resident Angels thanks to their commitment to beautifying the Johannesburg suburb.

Put onto our radar by an admiring community member Nicole Alers, Nicole shares that the duo—Busi and Lusanda Mate—can be seen at the crack of sunrise, bags at the ready for another day of active neighbourship.

Together, the Resident Angels fill bags and bags of litter; clearing up the streets and public spaces all the way down to the riverside out of the kindness of their hearts and love for their environment.

Over the months, they’ve inspired other community members to join in too (even on frosty days) which is a big nod to the duo’s brilliant effort.

“So much gratitude and a great reminder that where there is a problem in SA, there is someone working to fix it,” shares Nicole.

Meanwhile, in other clean-up hero stories, Save a Fishie recently completed their cross-country clean-up of South Africa as led by 21-year-old Zoë Prinsloo. This initiative cleaned up enough trash to compete with a female elephant’s weight!
