Heat Waves National Youth Music Competition

16-year-old Mike Wang has been named the winner of the 2022 National Youth Music Competition; his school proudly celebrated his success for all to see.

 

Paarl, South Africa (14 December 2022) – The National Youth Music Competition took place recently and 16-year-old Mike Wang took the top prize for his incredible performance. His school, Paarl Boys’ High School celebrated his win on Facebook.

The National Youth Music Competition is for young musicians between 14 and 19 years of age. It took place at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Parow, Cape Town from 05 December – 10 December 2022. The competition highlights the young talent in South Africa with a specific focus on young classical musicians who are pianists or orchestral instrumentalists.

Mike Wang was born in China but moved with his family to South Africa when he was only eight years old. He started taking piano lessons under the guidance of Prof. Mario Nell at the University of Stellenbosch and today is a talented pianist.

Paarl Boys’ shared that Mike is currently in grade 10, a member of the chess club and a valuable member of the school’s wind band.
