Niamh has made it to the Eurovision Junior Finals, in Ireland—a dream stage for the budding artist who sees her gift as an opportunity to create positive impact in the world (something she has already dedicated herself to).

If she wins enough votes, she would be granted the opportunity to be a finalist at the Eurovision Juniors in France—a win for South Africa, Ireland, artivists and anyone who believes in betting on dreams.

Of her daughter’s joyful achievement, her mom Alda Smith shares:

“Niamh means ‘radiant’ in Irish. I think her name chose her! Although Niamh is an extremely shy kid, she has a powerful inner and singing voice. She knows who she is—something that is rare at 12.

“I once told Niamh that she didn’t need the spotlight if she shone from within. She took that to heart.”

Alda adds that there are a few ‘House Rules’ they keep to navigate what can be a stressful world, adding that these rules keep the experience fun and simple:

“Niamh is not her (singing) voice. It is a beautiful part of her, but if she decides to stop singing today she will still be the compassionate child that we love with all our hearts.

“It’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Niamh decide what, when and how she wants to sing—we as parents will guide and advise.

“You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do, but you need to finish what you commit to.

“Have fun, be kind, don’t take yourself too seriously and remain a child as long as you can.”

Global Support Unites for Niamh

In support of the little South African songstress doing big things in her new home, Ireland, local artists like Die Heuwels Fantasties (whose ‘Klein Tambotieboom’ Niamh covered) have shared their support of the growing star:
