Newborns Trust secured a donation of free WiFi that has changed the lives of mothers living in Neonatal units without their families; they are connected through video now!
Cape Town, South Africa (223May 2020) – The Newborns Trust has been working to improve the lives of newborn babies and their families at Neonatal Units in Cape Town. The COVID-19 pandemic has led the trust to make an urgent public appeal for fabric masks which was a great success.
Now the Trust has secured a donation of free WiFi so families can meet the newborns born during the pandemic and lockdown.
Currently, no visitors are allowed into the hospitals of South Africa. Moms of newborns are allowed to be in the Neonatal Units but no other family. This can leave mothers feeling very isolated and alone during an especially stressful time!
The wifi donation will allow new mothers dealing with premature or sickly babies, to spend time with family virtually and introduce them to the new addition.
“Having a baby is one of life’s greatest joys. But when something goes wrong, and your baby needs to be in the hospital for weeks or sometimes months, it can be terrifying and lonely
Add a global pandemic to the mix, and our Moms are in uncharted territory. No visitors – so dads, siblings and grandparents cannot visit their babies. Moms feel isolated and scared.
The Newborns Trust was able to secure THE MOST AMAZING donation of FREE WIFI from RSAWEB for the entire unit – that’s 8 wards, 80 babies and their moms.”
Technology is connecting so many families in so many ways, but this has us in tears. It is such a beautiful way to give back during the pandemic and lockdown. Our hearts feel warmer today.
