Two things happened to a South African man which has made him realise that the power of change and unity in our beautiful country lies in all of us.

Sowing the seeds of a non-racial society… it all starts with us as parents!

Rudi Van Schalkwyk posted a photo of all the neighbourhood kids after an early evening game of street soccer, sharing a meal that one of his neighbours had made for everyone.

“After a game of street soccer my neighbour treated everyone to a lekker home cooked meal after which my son thanked him with “Enkosi kakhulu”… Unfortunately a positive post like this will never spread like a Penny Sparrow slur.”

Rudi believed that the post would go anywhere and in fact the exact opposite has happened. His photo has been shared over 3000 times and seen by thousands. The response has been extraordinary and so incredibly positive.

“UPDATE! It has been an extraordinary 24 hours! I’ve been truly humbled by the amazing response to my post on Saturday. I’ve had hundreds of messages and friend requests from all over the country! “shares” already turning at 2100 plus!”

The comments on the picture, speak for themselves…

Kenny Sylvester said “This is my 3rd month in South Africa. Nothing has inspired me more than this picture… This is a perfect example of how a caring, unifying and goldly community should look like. There is no greater LOVE/CARE than this. I don’t know how to put how I feel in words, wish I could just find a perfect word or sentence express this Joy. All I can say is; I Love This. God bless you.

Vhalinavho Khavhagali said “Thanks you and.much appreciation to this pic #Rudi. It’s true and reflected in many parts of our country that not all whites, not all blacks are racists, and that should be understood and shared all the times…. building a better society starts here and the rest is a process of integration. I hope this.must also be done.in resource areas, business economics areas, developmental areas, and other key strategic areas where all our kids can benefit without dependence….but equal sharing. It begins with you and me!!! Thank you for sharing.”

Rose Khosa commented: “Wish we all can do it ,to better our country”

South Africa is hungry for a change of heart! We all want to do good.

Rudi has professed that his change of mindset started when he went to his local fast-food restaurant a couple of weeks ago. There was a hungry child outside & Rudi decided to buy him a meal too. He asked the lady in the counter to put the extra meal in a separate bag as he wanted to give it to the child.

Without question, and with tears in her eyes, the server upsized the meal at no extra cost. Rudi had inspired a chain-effect of kindness and inspired someone else to assist where she could.

Rudi has since spent sleepless nights, thinking of ways that he could make a difference and inspire South Africans to  work together towards making our home a better place.

“Then it dawned on me. You love making music… why not use that to carry goodwill. So the plan will have a few facets.”

Rudi Van Schalkwyk

Rudi is part of band and has written a bunch of songs that will be donated to goodwill organisations… the songs and video content will convey unity and awareness for South Africa… his bigger plan it to organise a fund raiser and “Bring a Blanky” concerts.

“Making music is our passion… if we can do what we love and make a difference at the same time!”
