A 78-year-old man was the victim of a con woman who took almost every cent he owned. But this incredible SPAR stepped in to help.

Johannesburg, South Africa (04 March 2022) – Dianne Bayley, the daughter of the man who was “conned”, spoke to Good Things Guy after freezing her Dad’s account to secure the last of his life-savings.

While we can’t supply too many details of the con artist, the focus and the main story here is of the Northwold SPAR and their incredible team. They truly stepped up when the Bayley family needed it most.

Dianne’s father, a 78-year-old man, was the victim of a con woman who took almost every cent he owned. When the family realised what had happened, it was already too late. Dianne had to quickly freeze her father’s bank account in order to stop the woman from drawing more money out. She had reported the incident to the police but was left in a dire situation where her father had no money, no groceries and no plan to survive.

Northwold SPAR heard about the incident and immediately stepped in to assist. The owner George, allowed Dianne’s father to keep buying groceries and drawing small amounts of money, until this issue has been sorted out.

No questions asked. Just kindness shared.

George and Northwold Spar’s assistance, lifted a HUGE weight off of Dianne and her family’s shoulders, and the family still cannot believe how kind people in the world can be.

“Our family could not be more grateful, and impressed by a man who was just a schoolboy when he first met my Dad. It is these apparently “small” acts of kindness that help during a really tough time.” says Dianne.

But this is not the first time that Northwold SPAR had helped the Bayley family. The previous owner, George’s Dad Harry, generously supplied all the eats for Dianne’s brother’s funeral after his tragic passing almost a decade before.

The owner even continued to help and support the family throughout their time of grieving & allowed Dianne’s sister in-law to do her monthly grocery shopping at no cost

“While many may not realise how important this is to his well-being and independence, along with his safety, George has continued what appears to be a family tradition of being a decent, good man and a light in his local community.” Dianne told GoodThingsGuy

We need to take care of the elderly in our community, people take advantage of their frailness & it is completely unfair. This kind of elderly abuse is happening all the time & together we need to put a stop to it.

Thank you to Dianne Bayley for her incredible story, and a HUGE thank you to Northwold SPAR for your generosity and unfathomable kindness.
