Siyanda Sibusiso Dlamini has been walking across South Africa in the name of Peace; his efforts have been incredible and we took the chance to talk to him about his dream for the country.
South Africa (25 April 2023) – Siyanda Sibusiso Dlamini started his Peace Walk in 2022. He hopes to raise awareness and get people talking about how to bring peace and stability to our beloved country. We got a chance to speak to Siyanda and learn more about his hopes for South Africa.
Siyanda started his walk in January 2022, he left Durban and headed towards Mpumalanga. He walked from town to town and to date, has visited around 80% of South Africa’s towns.
For Siyanda, it has become clear that life in South Africa is not moving forward. People are becoming poorer, and young and old are suffering. To combat this, one needs to find a solution and that is peace. Siyanda explains that peace is a key factor for good economic growth. Economic growth can help address poverty and therefore, one cannot work without the other.
There are many ways one can bring peace into everyday life, for starters, we can be kind and caring to those around us. We can support the community, uplift people in need and step in when government fails. He wishes to see more people become active citizens within their communities. His motto is “Do Something”.
Along the way, he has worked hands-on with communities cleaning their towns and he has visited disadvantaged schools to give inspiring talks of hope and encouragement. He has placed value on working together for a better South Africa.
Siyanda is currently in East London, where he is hoping to cross paths with many more people. You might see him holding his sign, wearing his South African flag and advocating for peace.
His walk is far from over, you can follow along his adventure for peace on Facebook where he updates which towns he is in any projects he may be helping with.
