One Shoe SA is working to help amputees by creating a place they can connect with others like themselves and helping them get access to a fitting shoe.
Centurion, Gauteng – One Shoe SA has dedicated its efforts to helping amputees get the shoe they need after losing their leg. Imagine having to go to the shops to buy just one shoe, it makes things rather difficult. So the charity was set up to help amputees get the shoe they need, be it right or left.
They get sample shoes from big brands and donations from people. They then pair a shoe up with an amputee in need offering shoes of every occasion. They set up a Facebook group to connect with amputees and distribute the shoes they collected.
“Using this Facebook page as a platform, we’re hoping not only to source amputees in need and distribute our stock, but also encourage South African amps to start a line of communication with one another and do shoe swops. These programs are functional in many countries. We need this to work here as well.”
The charity started a crowdfund on BackaBuddy to raise funds to help them pay for delivery fees to get the shoes to amputees all over South Africa.
“We have uncovered a huge need for our single shoes. There is a never-ending stream of amputees that need some kind of assistance. This drive seeks to help them a little.”
They joined up with Postnet to do all the deliveries and can send up to five shoes to an amputee.
“Our latest delivery saw us being the recipients of just over 1,500 quality Adidas single shoes. We desperately need to get these out and we need help with delivery fees.”
“Please help us to get our quality shoes out to needy feet. We can’t do it without you.”
