Nyame Wessie (62) tragically lost the use of his left leg in December 2017. His leg was amputated following complications with sugar diabetes. Life was difficult for Wessie since he lost his wife in 2017 and his eldest also passed away earlier this year. Despite this, he remains a caring person who transports children to and from pre-school every day.

“Every day, I wait in the parking lot at the St Andrews SPAR for the children. I buy groceries at the SPAR. One can say I am a good client,” Wessie says with a smile on his face.

“One day, I was doing my rounds as usual when I received a call from the St Andrews SPAR. I had won a car! I couldn’t believe it, thought I was dreaming.”

Wessie describes the automatic Hyundai Grand i10 that he won, as being spacious and luxurious.

“The car has enough space for my entire family and the power steering is very nice. I love the car!”

Wessie stays with his three children in Kanana and will be using the new car for family trips.

“My family is my world and now we can enjoy quality time in a quality car. The children said to me their mother would have loved the beautiful car,” said Wessie.

The SPAR Win a Car competition ran countrywide from 24 July to 2 September. Customers who swiped their SPAR Rewards card and purchased one of the participating products in the competition, stood a chance to win one of 55 cars.

Manager of SPAR St Michaels, Andrew Christodoulou said they were delighted that one of their customers had won.

“Giving Nyame the keys to his new vehicle was very emotional. We are very glad that we could help him. He deserves to win!” said Christodoulou during the official handover of the car on Friday, 12 October.

Even though the cars are manual, SPAR went out of their way to accommodate Wessie with an automatic vehicle so that he might drive in comfort.
