Ouma Margaret started losing her sight a few months ago when her vision started blurring but thankfully she got it back before her birthday.

Cape Town, South Africa (04 September 2020) – Marco Charles shared the happy story of his almost 90-year-young grandmother who started losing her eyesight over the past few months and how she finally got her sight back.

Ouma Margaret has been saving up to have a big 90th birthday bash for a long time but when she started complaining of blurry vision, the family knew needed to do something to fix it.

With lockdown in place, Ouma Margaret had to wait for elective surgeries to be allowed again before she could get her sight back. Thankfully, surgeries were permitted in late August and she was able to have the operation before her big birthday.

Everyone came together to help pay for the surgery. Marco shared how he plans to make Ouma’s birthday special even though she had to spend all her savings.

“My grandmother’s sight the past few months started to get blurry each day up to where she can’t see at all some days.

Just thought to share her story and how grateful she is to get her sight back. Something I think most take for granted.

The procedure is a bit expensive but we managed. She used the money she saved for her 90th birthday and the rest my aunt and cousin contributed and some other colleagues and family and friends also gave what they can or offered support to be with her during the day when she is alone and my aunt and cousin working.

She is turning 90 on the 26th of October and I am planning to get 90 candles on one cake or I’ll try lol.”

Ouma Margaret now has her birthday to look forward to and while 90 candles on a cake might be quite bright, she will be able to see each and every one of them again.
