OUTsurance staff have taken up the cause of restoring dignity to women who have battled breast cancer and lost a breast to the disease by donating bras.
Centurion, South Africa – The month of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so female staff at OUTsurance are donating bras to help breast cancer mastectomy patients.
The bras are being used to reshape women’s lives and being turned into mastectomy bras for women recovering from the surgery. The project was put forward by Zani Bisschoff. Each month OUTsurance staff members are invited to recommend a charity for the ‘Staff Helping SA OUT’ volunteers. The group is made up of staff members who wish to do more for South Africa.
Not only did are they collecting bras this month, but they are also knitted mastectomy prosthetics known as ‘Knitted Knockers’ to help women who have battled cancer.
A mastectomy bra is specially designed for women who have undergone a mastectomy, or a lumpectomy, and can be worn with breast prostheses. Post-surgical bras are made with specially designed discreet pockets inside the cups.
The female staff members were welcome to donate new or gently loved bras to the cause. Medical expenses are already so high; many women can’t afford to purchase mastectomy bras. This way allows them to restore their self-image without having to pay out even more money.
This collection is being done on behalf of Journey of Hope Botswana for CANSA Botswana. It will make a massive difference in the lives of women fighting cancer in Botswana.
