Keep a township pet warm and throw in a few essential goodies by packing a Wagging Winter Shoebox! Simple, wholesome and a sure way to provide a little relief to vulnerable animals in Cape Town this winter:

Cape Town, South Africa (04 June 2024) — Winter has set in with its familiar icy temperatures and heavy rains in the Western Cape; bringing with it a wealth of worries for animal champions like the Mdzananda Animal Clinic. But, as always, there’s an opportunity to provide relief to the vulnerable. At this time of year, that opportunity is as simple as packing a winter shoebox that’ll undoubtedly have some tails wagging!

The organisation has created an easy way for the public to help keep Khayelitsha pets warm and get in a few goodies, and everyone is invited to get involved in the annual Wagging Winter Shoebox drive.

“We know many members of the public become distressed about the cold weather and the effect it has on township animals. We know people want to help but don’t always know how to do so. With this drive you can choose which pet you wish to help and pack a shoebox filled with goodies to keep them warm this winter,” says Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Executive.

The wagging winter shoeboxes are especially helpful at this time of the year as Mdzananda becomes jam-packed with animals and has more animals to help medically. When there are more pets experiencing hypothermia or broken bones due to poor driving in the bad weather, the reassurance that the animals in Mdzananda’s care are at least warm is a huge weight off of the team’s shoulders.
