Jonty ‘Striker’ Jacobs, is a courageous arm-wrestler who refused to let a tragic attack in 2018 derail his dreams. Despite being left paralysed, he continues to go for gold in competitions and is on a mission to become a champion.
Pretoria, South Africa (26 November 2024) – For some, it is when their lives are turned upside down that they truly tap into their inner strength and uncover the purpose of what they are meant to pursue in this lifetime.
Refusing to let his physical limitations deter his drive for life and dreams of becoming a successful arm-wrestling champion, is Jonty ‘Striker’ Jacobs.
The 34-year-old arm-wrestling powerhouse overcame a horrific ordeal back in June 2018 when he was attacked on his farm, shot, and left for dead in front of his then-six-year-old daughter.
But with a powerful human spirit, Jonty refused to let that tragic moment define him.
According to the Sweethearts Foundation, Jonty redefined his circumstances and forged ahead with unstoppable resilience.
“He returned to the sport he loves – arm wrestling – and competes against able-bodied opponents. There just aren’t enough paraplegic competitors to challenge him!
“To reach the table, his dad even steps in to help lift him, and Jonty then takes it from there, facing each match with fierce determination,” Sweethearts Foundation shares.
The Sweethearts Foundation is a non-profit organisation which collects bottle tops and bread tags, recycles them and then purchases wheelchairs for the disadvantaged members of the community.
When the foundation learned about Jonty’s courage and strength through his fiancée, Leandri Jacobs, she shared how they’d been collecting funds for a manual Swedotech wheelchair to help Jonty continue his athletic journey.
Touched by this, the foundation was thrilled to help with the final push, thanks to its supporters and #TopsAndTags donors who remain committed in their efforts to collect these items for wheelchairs to go to those who need them most.
“Our mission is more than just a top swap for wheelchairs. We’re all about crafting custom wheelchairs that fit like a glove for each unique superstar in need.
“We can’t wait to cheer Jonty on as he goes for the gold. Let’s keep those collections coming – our Sweethearts magic is making dreams come true every day.”
