Heroes helping heroes! The Boksburg community banded together to help the champion of vulnerable children, Amanda Coetzee, with an oxygen concentrator after she reached a more intense stage of her chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Boksburg, South Africa (30 October 2024) — In a heartwarming turning of the tables, a hero in need of support was met with many people willing to pull together to help her in a way that will certainly change her life.
Many in Boksburg may know Amanda Coetzee as a strong, inspiring woman. After all, for over 20 years, she has been a pillar of support for vulnerable babies and children through her organisation, Kuselo Child & Youth Care Services; dealing with countless situations that would prove to be far too much for the average person to bare. But Amanda has!
From providing a safe place for children in crisis to services that support families and protection for young humans, her life’s work has been dedicated to the next generation. To date, Kuselo has helped over 12,000 children.
Despite her superhuman work, Amanda is also just a human who has long been fighting a battle with her health due to her chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It’s a disease that has worsened over time to the point where breathing has become a challenge for her.
In a bid to help the hero, the Boksburg community put their thinking caps on.
The Humanity Foundation knew that they needed to rally as many people as possible to support a “fellow Community Service stalwart’ and that’s exactly what they did!
Together with other organisations like Urban Ruins Projects NPO and Noordelike Mossies, they raised enough money to get Amanda an oxygen concentrator so that Amanda can breathe with state-of-the-art help. Adding to this epic news, a mobile oxygen cylinder was also donated to Amanda by a kind business so she can access oxygen whilst on the move !
“Amanda, the founder of Kuselo and a pillar of the Boksburg community, is always just a phone call away to go save a child in distress can now breath easily with 90%+ oxygen when the need arises,” share the Humanity Foundation.
“The Humanity Foundation supports NPOs to do what they do best, and it was an honour and privilege to give back to Amanda in a time of need,” the team share.
Donations can still be made to support matters like oxygen refills and the servicing of the concentrator, and anyone who wants to contribute to Amanda’s hope can do so below:
