Animal lover Nazrudeen Adams started the Youth Pet Care initiative to make sure all the cats and dogs living in Lavender Hill got the care they needed.

Lavender Hill, South Africa (01 March 2021) – Nazrudeen Adams has a passion for taking care of animals which is what drove him to launch the Youth Pet Care organisation. Using a donated bicycle and a trolley, he visits families in need, offering to care for their pets by providing much-needed food, resizing collars or dealing with flea and tick problems.

Lavender Hill has a reputation for being rife with violence due to a high presence of gang activity and extreme poverty. Animal neglect and abuse are also very prevalent in the area. Many families try their best to care for their pets but sometimes they need a helping hand. Nazrudeen wants to be that connection.

Nazrudeen recently celebrated his birthday, and he asked that anyone who wanted to do something for him that rather help him help the animals. His wish came true, and one lady donated a secondhand dog kennel and tools to help fix it up. Nazrudeen was able to repair it and gift it to a family in need. He then went on to celebrate the big day by feeding over 250 pets in the Lavender Hill area.

As the area is quite dangerous, Nazrudeen has offered to walk people to and from Old Terminus while walking his dogs. He explained that one woman was robbed three times in one week on the route. Walking his three dogs along, he hopes to keep that route safe for the people who use it for commuting.

Youth Pet Care embodies not only the care and protection of animals but also that of pet owners and people in general. At the end of the day, Nazrudeen just wants his community to thrive, and he is trying everything to make sure that happens.

His main goal for Youth Pet Care now is to keep raising funds to feed animals and dog flea and tick treatments, but he is also concerned about the upcoming winter. In Cape Town, they have cold, wet and windy winters that can be brutal for animals without proper shelter. The organisation welcomes donations of warm blankets, secondhand (or new) dog kennels, cat and dog food or should you wish to; you can support them by donating to the Purple Kennel Project on their behalf.
