The Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment organisation has been overwhelmed with support during and after the protests and want to thank South Africa for lending a helping hand!
Phoenix, South Africa (23 July 2021) – After a week and some asking for aid, the Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) reached out to Good Things Guy to give a massive shout out to all the sponsors and donors that helped them out.
PACT was caught in the epicentre of the violence during the protests and looting. They said many of the animals in the area were considered collateral damage. Animals were not the top priority at the time, but Neeri Naidoo, who runs PACT, explained that they continued to feed the 600 dogs and cats daily.
The stressful part came in when their food stocks started running out. Neeri says they put out a call on Facebook, asking for assistance with animal food from anyone who could spare. They had only 6 bags of dog food and not cat food at all.
They had checked all their open shops, but panic buyers had purchased all the pet food, and there was no stock left.
“People in both JHB and CTN started sharing our posts and calls started coming in. There were trucking companies offering their services for free to people and organisations to send food and meds to families and organisations here in Durban and so people started to rally together and started sending cat and dog food to the animals. We were even able to help so many smaller organisations reach food because they had no resources to get to food for their fur babies.”
Neeri was blown away by the support received and wanted to give a massive shoutout to every person, company and organisation that stepped up during this time of need.
They got help from local pet food shops, businesses and more. Nandos delivered chicken to be fed to the animals, Harcourts donated funds, and even local celebrities like the cast of The Kandasamys took up their cause.
“So many ordinary people touched our lives by doing extraordinary things.
In a time where fear gripped us, hate and despair filled our city, we were shown love, care, kindness and compassion from all people of different colours, creeds, genders and religions. We were shown humanity.”
“We wanted to send a shout out to our sister cities and its people for reaching out their hand and letting us know, we were not alone. We learnt that as South Africans, we are different but SAME!
All our animals can go to bed warm with a full belly because South Africa has fed them. Thank You!”
