Senecio is the non-profit organisation that focuses on bettering the lives of children with physical disabilities in underprivileged, under-serviced areas.
Remember that viral video about the shopping mall in Cape Town that blocked all the prime parking spots with wheelchairs to show able-bodied shoppers what it was like having special parking spots taken? Well one of the brains behind that awareness campaign was Senecio.
Senecio aims to assist underprivileged families care for children with physical disabilities. They have launched a new campaign and it is all because of you! The #BecauseOfYou campaign was created in the hopes that readers like you would help them provide the care the children need.
Kieno Kammies from Cape Talk and David Scott from The Kiffness have teamed up with Senecio to drive awareness to their organisation.
Children with disabilities face many struggles, especially in the underprivileged and under serviced areas. Lack of knowledge of the child’s condition, lack of resources, lack of facilities that offer care and assistance, limited transport options and the stigma surrounding disabilities are only a few of the struggles they face every day.
The organisation works to offer care clinics for the children to attend. They train the family members to ensure the children specific needs are met. Every case is different so each child is treated differently according to their needs.
To get involved with the organisation, whether it be a money donation or volunteering your time, you can contact Senecio here.
They shared a touching story about Yanga Ggada, one of the children now receiving therapeutic care thanks to supporters. You can watch his story below.
