Jill Adams has several poems that outline the joys of kindness and being kind to others – she hopes by sharing one, she inspires more kindness in SA.
South Africa (12 January 2021) – Poet Jill Adams has always believed in kindness; it is something she has instilled in her children by discussing it each night at dinner. The theme of kindness has also been spotted throughout her works of poetry.
“Kindness was something I instilled in my children their entire lives. At the dinner table, they were asked the question: “What kind deed did you do today?” Kindness starts at home- it’s the function of a parent, and is unfortunately non-existent in many homes.
If I could give any advice to future parent, it would be something I read on a bumper sticker, many years back: Practice random acts of kindness, and senseless acts of beauty! Our children look to us, 24/7.”
Jill has dedicated this poem to her boys, but she hopes it inspires others to do more in kindness.
JUST A LITTLE KINDNESS
By Jill Adams
If you could see inside your soul
What is it you would find?
Is it a soul that’s always guided
By the rules of being kind?
For a little kindness
Is big in heart
It goes a long, long way
Please show kindness, make that start.
If you could see inside your soul
Would it make you oh so proud?
Is your character caring and considerate
Do you stand out from the crowd?
Are you honourable and gracious
Do you have compassion to all those suffering?
Are you forgiving in your nature
Is it a helping hand you’re offering?
If you could see inside your soul
Would you like what you will see?
Is it a humble soul, a wholesome soul
Guided by much integrity?
Are you always honest?
Do you stand by your word?
Is your spoken word considerate,
No wrath or hurt incurred?
For your eyes they are the mirrors
The reflection of your soul
So make sure that they’re smiling
And set kindness as your goal.
