A police officer went the extra mile to help a farmer save his orchard after he spotted a wisp of smoke while driving past the farm.
Tulbagh, Western Cape – A farm in Tulbagh, Western Cape were alerted to a fire on their property after a police officer drove up to the house to inform them.
He has been driving past when he noticed smoke coming from one of the orchards. Grant Clack was trying to get the farm’s water cart attached to go extinguish it but was having trouble. The officer knew that the fire needed to be tended to immediately and offered to drive some of the farm workers down to the fireline to get started.
The farm workers grabbed their fire beaters and hopped into the police officer’s van. He drove them down to the fireline to start beating out the fire while waiting for the water cart to arrive.
“This policeman drove into our farm this morning to notify us that he had seen smoke in one of our orchards and was concerned.
We were frantically trying to get our water cart hitched at which point he loaded up some of my staff took our beaters and drove off in his police van to start beating the fire! Wow, way beyond his call of duty. Thank you, sir, we really appreciate all your help. Big ups for Tulbagh community policing”
