Poodles SPCA heroes save 45 dogs from "well known" show dog judge

45 dogs were rescued from a dog-show judge’s home and now they have received top medical care and grooming thanks to donations from the public.

Benoni, South Africa – On Thursday the 31st of January, the Benoni SPCA raided the home of a well-known show dog judge and breeder, and confiscated 45 dogs from her premises serving as a  warehouse for her stock.

When inspectors visited the property they could see some of the dogs in the backyard but feeling suspicious, they returned with a search warrant.

When they entered the home they were shocked to find animals in desperate need of medical attention. Many, gravely ill. Around 30 dogs were hidden throughout the house, enclosed in small cages.

Since posting the first story yesterday, donations have been pouring in to help treat the dogs. The Benoni SPCA estimated that medical costs would be around R20,000. Within 24-hours, they shared a hopeful update about the dogs.

“Today, our faith in humanity has been restored.

The Benoni SPCA has been overwhelmed with people wanting to donate funds for the veterinary treatment of our confiscated animals. Thanks to the donations, we are able to give these dogs only the best professional care they deserve.

A big thank you to Sharlene from Mystical Pawprints for spending her day grooming the animals.”

Their initial plea for help reached an international level and thousands of people started reaching out to inquire about the dogs being rehomed. The SPCA wants to rehome all the animals but shared their concerns about all the animals they care for. They have pointed out that all donations should be directed to their account and that nobody has permission to raise funds on their behalf.

“Please remember that we value your donations and would hate for them to end up in the wrong hands. NO ONE has been given permission to fundraise on behalf of the Benoni SPCA on this case and monetary donations should only be transferred into our account or into that of our veterinarian using the reference POODLES.”

The only bank details they have provided are below. You can contact them directly if you would like to donate towards the vet bills directly, they will provide the vet’s information.
