Tumi is a Positive Force

Tumi has become the positive force behind helping the children of Diepsloot, she focuses on substance abuse and educating the youth of its dangers.

Tumi’s story is like most others, she was raised by a single mother dedicated to providing for the family. She witnessed her mother struggle which gave her passion, drive and a wise head on her shoulders for someone so young.

She decided to be the change and became a champion for the youth of Diepsloot. She wants to help the local youth to do something constructive and find meaning in their own lives. Tumi joined the Growing Great Girls Mentorship Program at Shumbashaba.

Shumbashaba is an Equestrian centre that focuses on various development and social upliftment programmes. Working with disabilities, both physical and intellectual and kids from formerly disadvantaged communities’.

“The Growing Great Girls program was key to unlocking an awareness about myself, helping me to recognise my skills and talents, and realise I have enormous potential”.

Tumi decided to become proactive in the fight against substance abuse, she enrolled in the SANCA substance abuse prevention education programme. Using this knowledge she implemented it into the Shumbashaba programmes with the children.

“Tumi has thrown herself at any and every opportunity that the Shumbashaba Community Trust has to offer, grabbing with both hands the chance to develop herself, broaden her horizons and gain meaningful experience. Tumi is indeed a force for positive change!” – Jacky, Shumbashaba

The future is bright for Tumi and for every child that has the privilege to look up to her! She is an outstanding role model.
