Pupils’ Sweet Gesture

You know those random moments when someone does something special when you least expect it? One teacher had that exact moment this Monday when her learners left her a surprise that melted her heart!

Eastern Cape, South Africa (16 October 2025) – Whether you care to admit it or not, there’s nothing quite like a random token of appreciation to instantly lift your spirits and make you feel validated, especially when it comes from something you’ve invested your time and effort into.

A local teacher, Andy Saba, was taken aback when she discovered her pupils had put together something special for her on the first day of the fourth term – not because it was her birthday or a special day, but simply because they appreciated her.

In a Facebook post, Andy shared images of the treats she received from her little people, which included her first-ever bouquet of flowers.

She revealed that she was so shocked upon receiving the gifts, as she had no idea what she had done to deserve them.

“They said it’s an appreciation for being a supportive and loving teacher. Mind you, zange ndathengelwa flowers mna (I’ve never been bought flowers before), and I’m not a fan, but today all that has changed because of abantwana bam (my children). I’m out of words,” Andy wrote.

These kids sure know how to make someone feel special!

The post with over 800 likes and over 100 adoring comments brought a positive ray of light across many timelines, with many social media users gushing over the kids’ gesture and commending Andy for being a dedicated teacher.

“This is amazing, that means you are really taking a good care for them. It’s good to give your flowers while you are still with them in the same school. I really like their effort, it really means a lot in life generally,” one of the many comments reads.

Teachers are at the centre of shaping a child’s journey – significantly contributing to their education, development and how they view the world. If this sweet gesture is anything to go by, Andy seems to be doing a stellar job in her role and is helping raise a generation that already knows the value of giving thanks and giving back!
